Long time no see!
Been a while, but everything is going according to the plan! Daily routine is discussing designs with the artists and approve it. We talk about colors, what type of thread to use, shapes and so on. It’s a game of iterations, I will bring the idea, they will discuss limitations and improvements according to their art technique and the final step is to take into consideration the next stages: photos and digital manipulation. It’s a slow process and discussed one by one, each companion, trait and body part of the Voodies.
The other day I was explaining this project to a friend. He asked me “why all this trouble when you could just get an 3d artist to do all the job?”.
Yeah, I thought about that. Obviously it has its advantages, but it would kill the core idea of this project: bringing traditional art to the blockchain.
Also, I have a few more considerations to make:
I — The first and most obvious advantage of a native 3d art is the production speed. The crochet process requires much more time and it’s a pain to correct errors and redo stuff. That’s why we have 6 artists working in this project, it would take forever for just one person to do it all and he/she would probably burn out;
II — The second big advantage of 3d is how easy it is to modify colors, add shades, shadows and so on;
III — On the other hand, I feel like I would lose creative control;
IV — Also we would lose fidelity trying to mimic crochet in 3d. We are facing all limitations and perks this art can offer, so the final product is as real as it can be;
V — I love 3d projects with lots of textures, depth of image and stunning shadows and reflections. But in the end there’s a limit to what you can achieve. Photographing a real subject surpasses any simulation of a real, tangible object. Of course, we are talking about photos taken by a nikon D850 and focus stacking technique;
VI — Breaking the fourth wall: we have an excellent opportunity to bring the Voodies to the real world, it’s already there! We can make stunning campaigns irl, take photos in interesting places, make videos, stop motions, interactions… the possibilities are endless, we already have the tangible product in our hands;
VII — We are pioneering, this reason alone is worth all the time and work put into this project. There are many great 3d projects out there, but we are bringing something totally new to this scene;
VIII — Finally, we are supporting traditional artists. We love digital artists, but it’s a shame leaving analogical art out of massive NFT collections. We can expand possibilities, they have another vision of art, another take. And we truly think bringing traditional art can be healthy to crypto and NFTs.
